April Newsletter – Metabolic Disease Does Not Happen Overnight!

Did you know that many of the chronic diseases our country (and the world!) faces can take over a decade to turn into a full-blown diagnosis? You do not walk into a healthcare provider’s office and receive a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes “out of the blue”. Changes have been occurring in advance of this diagnosis, often for a decade or more! We believe metabolic health is one of the keys to wellness and longevity. As a Wellness Center, we want to help! 

So why do we wait until something is a BIG problem? Can’t we instead be proactive and gain information early, when there are smaller, manageable steps that we can take to reverse the course of disease and restore health? 

Testing for markers of metabolic health can significantly enhance proactive healthcare by identifying individuals at risk for metabolic syndrome and related conditions early, allowing for timely interventions. Metabolic syndrome is characterized by the presence of at least three of the following five clinical factors: hypertension, elevated triglyceride levels, low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels, insulin resistance, and central obesity. Identifying these markers can help in stratifying patients’ risk for cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers.

Measuring blood pressure and waist circumference, while looking at your cholesterol numbers, your glucose, HbA1C AND fasting insulin, kidney, liver, markers of inflammation and vitamin D levels, we can see where you are currently with metabolic health, and offer actionable steps to help via lifestyle and supplement recommendation.
